The CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer — Knowledge Assessed) exam tests your understanding of learning theory, instruction, canine behavior, and professional practice. A structured study plan beats cramming: map content to the official domain weights and revisit weak areas with practice questions.

What the exam covers

CCPDT publishes domain percentages (e.g. instructional skills, ethology, learning theory, ethics). Spend study time in proportion to those weights, and use reading lists aligned with each domain so you are not guessing what “might” appear.

  • Know definitions: reinforcement schedules, LIMA, Humane Hierarchy, stress signals.
  • Practice explaining protocols to a client — the exam rewards clear teaching, not jargon.
  • Use scenario-style questions: what would you do first, what would you refer out.

How Furtitude supports prep

Our study modules, practice questions, and reading references are organized to mirror certification domains — so your time goes toward exam-relevant material, not random blog posts.
